Zacchaeus: “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor.” He then
promised, “If I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I
restore fourfold.” Jesus responded by saying, “Today salvation has come to
this house.” Luke 19:1-10.
I have always said that a man or woman who won't give their money won't give
their life. When 20 percent of church people give 80 percent of the money
needed for ministry, you know millions who call themselves Christians are
not giving their lives.
We give in two ways: Out of surplus so it costs us little or nothing, or
sacrificially so that it costs us a great deal. The story of the widow's
mite was given by Jesus to help us realize she gave more than the richest
person. David said, “God forbid that I should give to the Lord of that which
costs me nothing.”
In today's church, it is rare indeed when someone tells the truth about why
and how we should give. More is said in Scripture about giving and the use
of money that any other subject. Check it out.
Oswald Sanders said: “Not every man can carry a full cup. Sudden elevation
frequently leads to pride and a fall. The most exacting test of all is to
survive prosperity.”
Do you really believe that when you give sacrificially, you gain? Try it.
You'll have joy you've never known before.
