Sometimes, memories flood my mind of experiences God has given the past forty-four
years of Evangelism. One of the most touching was at a camp meeting in Louisiana
with the great preacher Leonard Ravenhill.
One evening after I had led the singing, Leonard had preached and we were into the
invitation. Nothing was happening, so we thought, and Dr. Ravenhill turned to
me and said, “That’s enough”. The invitation was ended.
All of a sudden a farmer wearing overalls stood to his feet and said, “We’re
not ready to go home preacher, leave us alone.” Ravenhill turned and asked
me to continue the music. Shortly, a missionary couple came to the altar and gave
the $2,000.00 they had saved for a vacation to the camp so buildings could be built.
All of a sudden a man in the back of the auditorium stood to his feet and yelled, “I
redeem the $2,000.00, let them take their vacation.” I had not seen it done
before or since.
After that, a twelve-year-old boy came to the altar, tears streaming down his face,
accepting Christ as his Savior. When the pastor announced what had happened the
same farmer who had said, “Leave us alone” came running down the isle,
grabbed the twelve year old boy lifted him above his head and walked all around the
crowded auditorium shouting, ”Praise God, Hallelujah, my boy is saved!
My boy is saved! My boy is saved!”
Dr. Ravenhill turned to me and said, “Son, stand back and watch it happen, it
doesn’t happen often.”
That’s the way I felt at this years Conference in June. We witnessed something
that doesn’t happen often. We were there and you can be too. Order
the set of DVDs or CDs and you’ll be there. I’ve been watching one or
two a day and it is as if these great preachers and musicians are still in Colorado
Springs. The spirit jumps out of the TV or radio. If you are not blessed
I’ll be the most surprised person in the world.
